Bar Lounge

Whilst your staying at The Swiss Cottage in Shanklin why not enjoy a relaxing drink during the warm summer evenings in our comfortable bar lounge or our decked patio area and watch the world go by.

We have a selection of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks available at our competitive priced bar.

When around we open the bar around 9 pm to have a night cap or we run an honesty bar when we are not available.

If you do not wish to go out why not stay in and catch up on your television programs on our large Flat Screen TV which also has Digital & Sky channels or use our Free WI FI service to catch up with those emails!

On the first floor, children/guests have a quiet room which has its own TV with games, books, DVD and Video’s so you can get away from the parents for a while or for adults seeking a peaceful room to read their book or newspaper or just to relax in!


Dining Room

After a good nights sleep, come down and read a selection of the complimentary morning papers in the Guests Lounge (please do not take them in our dining room) or catch up with the news and weather on the TV.

Our breakfasts are pre-ordered the day before, which allows Christine to have your breakfast prepared and ready for when you are in the morning, this aids us to achieve a more efficient service to our guests and to ensure that you can enjoy the whole day ahead. ( local produce when available from local butchers, grocers and farms)

Our Breakfast Service is served between 8.30 and 9.30 am and we kindly ask all our guests to be in by 9:00 am please.

When the doors are open, upon entry to the dining room you will be shown to your table and you will then have a choice of a variety of different cereals, grapefruit & pear segments, fresh fruit salad, 6 different juices, a variety of yogurts and healthy breakfast bars, all available on a self-service basis or order Keith’s scrummy Porridge with your waitress, first thing.

You can order a variety of excellent breakfasts from our Full 7 item English breakfast or just try lighter option of up to 2 items or Croissants, Bagels with Scrambled Egg & Smoked Salmon, Egg/Bacon/Sausage sandwiches or a tasty smoked Kipper & bread, (plus many more choices) all cooked fresh every morning to order and accompanied by a variety of fruit, herbal, decaff & black teas or decaff, granulated, cafetiere coffees or something different like Latte or Cappuccino or Hot Chocolate plus white/brown/wholemeal toast as required with your choice of 4 jams, 4 marmalade’s  or honey, marmite or golden syrup to prepare you for the day ahead.


Children are well catered for with their own menu, which includes a choice of less options from the adult main menu or they can upgrade to the full Adult menu at a supplement.

And finally we ask all our guests to come in for Breakfast appropriately dressed and correct footwear etc, as you would in any restaurant ie no swimsuits, no dressing gowns and no bare feet. Thank you.

Please note that as of 2018 we no longer cater for Half Board Service after 10 years of service.



The modern and tastefully decorated En-suite rooms, two of which are on the ground floor, offer flexible accommodation.

All rooms have flat screened digital TV/DVD for you to watch over 100 channels or listen to some music on your CD/radio alarm clock.

We have also installed USB plugs in one of the sockets per room.

You also have an extensive range of complimentary beverages, fresh milk, mini fridge, fan and a hair dryer in your room plus a trouser press, iron and ironing board and shoe polish equipment are on the landing for you to use.

Double room

We are able to arrange accommodation to provide up to five or six En-suite double rooms at any one time, depending on availability.

Two are situated on the ground floor, one with a large walk in shower and seating area into the front bay and the other with a shower cubicle and annex providing a separate small sitting room.

The other three are on the first floor, one large double with bath and shower above which also has a seating area and the other two standard doubles both have En-suite shower rooms.

All rooms are available for adult single occupancy; a single supplement charge applies during our High Season.


Single / Twin room

There are three standard twin rooms on the first floor, one with bath/shower En-suite, the other with shower En-suite and the last one has the sole use of a private bathroom.

Sorry we do not have any Twin Rooms on the Ground Floor.

All rooms are available for adult single occupancy; a single supplement charge applies during our High Season.


Family Suites

There are two Family suites, the first is on the ground floor and can be arranged to accommodate two adults sharing a En-suite double room and one smaller teenager sleeping on a double sofa bed in the extra annex room within the same suite. The two rooms are open plan and have no doors within the suite but one outer door onto the corridor for your own privacy.

The second family suite is on the first floor, which can accommodate two adults sharing an En-suite double room and up to two children (aged 10-15) sleeping on single beds, in a adjoining twin room within the same suite. It has its own corridor and doors to each room and also an outer door that be locked for your own privacy.

We can also let out two rooms on the First Floor – Rooms 10 a Double En Suite and Room 11 Twin En Suite which are adjacent each other for families but they are not interconnecting.

And Finally we can also let out two rooms on the Ground Floor – Room 1 the Family Suite (sleeps up to 3 people) & Room 2 the Large Double En Suite (sleeps 2 people) so a minimum of 3 people and maximum of 5, as they have a private corridor and a separate outer door that can be locked to for your own privacy.


Attending a Special Occasion or just want to be Pampered: although we don’t have a Beauty Room on the premises but we can recommend our friends 

Tiffany & Jill at The Beauty Lounge situated around the corner who offer great rates for facials, body massages, hand & foot care, nails and waxing all at

If during your stay you find something is not to your liking or something isn’t working, please come and discuss the problem with us personally,

as so very often the smallest of things can be rectified.

However we must remind all guests that any breakages to equipment or furnishings will be charged to yourselves, whether its by accident or not.

On your arrival you will be greeted by us but please keep to your proposed arrival time (any delays due to traffic etc just give us a call) to ensure we are in to greet you our Arrival/Check In Time is between 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

This then allows us time to show you to your room and explain our procedures before joining you in the lounge for a cuppa and a chat

and to answer any questions regarding Shanklin or your stay with us that you may have.

Should your arrival be delayed for any reason, we ask guests out of courtesy to contact us to advise of amended arrival time.

Therefore any arrivals after 5:00pm are by prior arrangement/agreement: our latest Check In will be 9:00pm.

On your sad and final day, our Room Check Out time is 10:00am.

We then strip and thoroughly clean and and re dress the room  ready for the next guests arrivals from 2:00pm onward.

Your 100% satisfaction and holiday enjoyment is our No 1 main priority, if there is anything we can provide or assist you with,

whilst you are with us in our home, please do not hesitate to ask and we will try our upmost to accommodate.

However we would like to keep our property for all our guests, so please respect our home and the effort we have put into maintaining the property for your enjoyment. We have liaised and been inspected by the Hotel Inspectors from Visit England several times and they checked out our guidelines/rules/requests and have passed every single one as good constructive housekeeping. So please help us to help you by keeping your rooms tidy, open your curtains, be environmentally friendly by turning off showers/heaters & lamps etc when you go out, straighten your beds for us so we can make them, please rinse your cups out, clear up any spillages or notify us and don’t leave wet towels on the floor or bed and so on. If these simple guidelines are too much for you to appreciate then we ask that you kindly stay somewhere else! Although you are paying for our service, please remember that you are staying in someone else’s house as our guest and we ask you to help us to help you as you would at home!
