Swiss Cottage is an attractive, friendly traditional seaside hotel under the personal supervision of Keith & Christine Beckett.

We aim to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as we can, in a safe, home from home environment.

Swiss Cottage is situated in a quiet road and is within two minutes walk of the beach, cliff walks and the High Street.  The Shanklin Chine, Old Village, Theatre, buses and railway station are easily reached on foot.

Enjoy your meal in our light and airy dining room. Staff and children have a breakfast comprising of a choice of cereals, a cooked breakfast (full English for Staff), toast and tea.  A packed lunch is provided with a choice of sandwich, crisps, piece of fruit and drink. In the evening a set three-course meal is served with a variety of squash’s. Refreshments are available before bedtime on request.

Children are accommodated in six rooms on modern bunk beds with adequate furniture to store clothing and possessions.  Each room has access to en-suite facilities, with a private bathroom for those occupying Room 9.  Staff are accommodated in two twin en-suites rooms.  Coat hanging and shoe storage are provided in the main hallway, to help keep the rooms clean, fresh and dry and sand free!

Please advise us of any special access needs and dietary requirements that you may have in order that we can, where possible, provide the appropriate service.

Can you please discuss your Schools Itineraries with us first so we can help you and also to ensure they fit in with your arrival/departure times (re packing/unpacking) welcome meeting fire drill, guided tour etc and our meal times.

Please come a stay with us for one night to familiarise yourself with the area, property etc.

Accommodation
Each school party will have exclusive use of the hotel.  The proprietors live on site. The maximum number of children we can accommodation is around 30, dependent on the gender split of each group. The normal bed spaces available for each floor are as follows:-

Transport
When we have full capacity of pupils, there is NO additional accommodation in the building for coach drivers/extra staff but suitable accommodation can be found close by. There is an extra charge for teachers wanting separate rooms re the extra work involved. The car park is suitable for the parking of minibuses, but unfortunately NOT coaches.  There are coach parks nearby.

Entertainment
To finish the week off on a high, why not have a professional disco on the last night of your stay, at a small additional cost. Booking required 2 months in advance. Please discuss with us. A Tuck Shop/Bar is available on this evening, selling sweets, crisps and drinks which the kids love. A selection of board games and a LCD Television/DVD & Video will remain in the lounge for your use.

GENERAL PROCEDURES AND HOUSE RULES

  • Schools contacted prior to visit
  • Group briefing  and outline of House Rules on arrival
  • Emergency evacuation carried out with each group
  • Electrical appliances removed/disconnected in children’s rooms.
  • In conjunction with Health and Safety NO electrical games or charging of mobiles in children’s rooms. If found will be confiscated until departure.
  • Soft shoes/slippers to be worn at all times around the building.
  • Outdoor shoes to be removed on entrance to building and placed on shoe racks provided.
  • NO drinks ( except water ) allowed in rooms
  • NO food to be consumed in rooms
  • NO Ink Pens / Felt Pens allowed in rooms.
  • Hair dryers will be provided and used under supervision by Staff, NO Straightening Irons.
  • Hall / Landing Lights to be switched OFF by 10:30pm
  • Children to be in rooms by 10:00pm, unless  owners notified of evening activities
  • Bathrooms are cleaned on a daily basis
  • Bathroom accessories NOT to be used for any other reason, i.e. storage of Sea Urchins, Sand, Flowers etc.
  • NO Jumping on beds
  • Children to enter and leave dining area in an orderly manner, push chairs under tables when leaving.
  • NO Jumping on Lounge furniture
  • Windows in Bedrooms to be open at a minimum requirement, DO NOT Lean out of windows
  • Schools liable for reimbursement of any damaged caused by their school party.
